David had a successful career as a gaffer from 1987 until 1999, gaining insights into both camera and lighting. In 1999, he took on the role of a boom operator for a week on the BBC TV series, Ground Force, sparking his interest in on-location sound recording.

Moving into drama, David encountered and embraced its complexities and since 2010, he has worked as a Production Sound Mixer on scripted dramas. The dramas include Band2 HETV dramas and features in different countries around the world, which are detailed in his credits below.

Owning all his own kit, he is able to configure equipment to exactly match the varying needs of fast paced production environments. State of the art time code solutions ensure fast post workflows and seamless integration.

Surviving Earth (Feature) – Film 4

Production Sound Mixer

Surviving Earth is a true story of a man who survived civil war in the Balkans and who is suffering from the aftereffects as well as fighting addiction and building a relationship with his daughter. He is also starting a Balkan music band. Shot mainly in Bristol, it combined feature film routines with music sequences, varying from small rooms to music venues. Having different size rigs for each location was very useful as some venues were tight for space but still required the full mixer facility. Close co-operation with the edit meant that the assets were delivered as required and in a format that the post process required.

Champion HETV (Series) – BBC/Netflix

Production Sound Mixer

‘Champion’ was a groundbreaking eight-part HETV series with music and drama combined, large music venues and complex timecode, in ear and playback setups. I was instrumental in creating the edit workflow to make the music sequences cost effective to edit and ran a crew of up to seven. This also utilised multi-channel IEM systems for director’s headsets and complex antenna arrays. During the Jamaica block I was able to train two local crew as well as dealing with a challenging RF environment.
